The Pavilion Convention Centre is a flexible, multi-use area with control of services being carried out from a central bio-box (control booth) and two sub bio-boxes. Control of small areas is possible from strategically located panels in each room: Recessed Communication Boxes (RCBs).
Audio
The sound reinforcement and associated services have been designed to accommodate a wide variety of uses. All signal, control and loudspeaker circuits are trunked to this central bio-box, which overlooks the Pavilion and also contains lighting control and other audio-visual support equipment. Each usable area incorporates a number of ceiling speakers, which are trunked to the central bio-box and independently switchable.
A series of microphone and control circuits have been trunked from the RCBs located around the convention hall to appearances on the central bio-box patch frame. The ceiling speakers are more than adequate for all applications; however, for stereo and high-level sound reproduction we recommend liaison with an audio-visual production company. Facilities for recording and playback are installed in the central bio-box.
Audio-visual
An extensive network of remote control cabling is installed, readily accessible at all RCBs. These same RCBs incorporate audio input / outputs to facilitate use of the in-house sound system. As previously mentioned, one central bio-box and two sub bio-boxes are built in, overlooking the Pavilion. Each bio-box window is off the Pavilion floor. The central bio-box has a window measuring 12.5 metres wide by 1.2 metres high when fully opened. The sub bio-box windows measure 1.25 metres wide by 1.2 metres high.
Video
At every RCB, there is facility for connection of video and / or television equipment, which can be patched in the central bio-box to either live camera or video recorders. In addition to the outlets in the RCBs, there are also nine of these points located in the ceiling. That is at least one in each of the independent rooms of the Pavilion.
This cabling can be used for closed-circuit television, off-air television distribution, video projection and security monitoring. The cabling is terminated in BNC connectors in all areas, and an extensive patch field is installed in the bio-box.
Telephone / Telex
The Convention Centre has an extensive network of telephone sockets available for use. These can also be used for telex, facsimile etc. The network has 83 outlet points with 37 lines available for use at any one time.
Lighting
A particular feature in the centre is the local control capability of the illumination intensity to the occupied area. Through the use of portable lighting control units, the individual intensity of the lights may be varied. Variation is capable within predetermined settings of full-on, full-off and two in-between settings. Similar facilities and flexibility of service are provided in the meeting rooms adjacent to the Pavilion. For additional lighting requirements, the Pavilion ceiling houses an adequate number of rigging points for the suspension of lighting bars. Each point has a weight load capability of up to 200 kg, 500 kg or 1000 kg. These points can also be used for the suspension of video camera equipment. A number of 10' crossbars and brackets are available.
Spotlighting
There are 252 outlets in 92 positions throughout the ceiling area on 66 circuits that are 10 amp wired in 2.5 mm cable. These are controllable from the central bio-box via a 24-channel LSC Precept Lighting Control Desk.
Power / Electrical
Available at each RCB in the Pavilion are 10 amp, 15 amp and three phase (30 amp, 5 pin) power outlets. The RCBs, within the adjoining meeting rooms, each offer 10 amp and 15 amp power outlets only. Additional 10 amp GPOs are located in recessed boxes on the Pavilion floor. In the main bio-box there are 2 x 30 amp 5-pin, 3-phase outlets as well as a series of 10 amp outlets for audio-visual use.
For large productions there is a 300 amp 3-phase switchboard, with fuse links in various sizes, built into the wall on the opposite side of the Pavilion to the bio-box.
Staging Capabilities
Vehicular access is via the Gallery in Southport I meeting room. Doorway dimensions are 3 metres wide by 4.2 metres high.
Decorating: Circumferencing the Pavilion is a hanging rail. This is interrupted by mirrored panels only, so the suspension of logos, banners and other such decorative material has been well catered for.
Sico Stage Modules: The surface measures 6' x 8' and is carpeted. The stage pieces are tri height as follows:
- 33 pieces - 16", 24", 32"
- 12 pieces - 40"
Where clients and producers are supplying their own production and staging teams, a technician familiar with the hotel's systems will be allocated to assist in set-up. Fees for technical services are based on equipment used and the number of man-hours involved in the event.
The above specification sheet has been designed to serve as a guideline for meeting planners and audio-visual staging companies. Any further information may be obtained by contacting the Event Sales department on: +61 7 5592 8670.
